RESPONSE TO: Hyperhidrosis? No sweat!
I feel that I need to express my empathy for the author of Hyperhidrosis? No sweat! I too suffered from chronic hyperhidrosis throughout my adolescent years, and experienced the same feelings of isolation and frustration. I also underwent thorascopic symathectomy last year, and since then my life has changed dramatically, giving me a new lease on life. On my first consultation with a GP, I was told that it did not require treatment, and I should not worry about it, even after explaining the imapct it had on my life. Needless to say, I sought a second opinion, and went through the empircal treatment of aluminium chloride, then iontophoresis. After poor results I was referred to a vascular surgeon, who, on seeing the extent of my problem, agreed to perform a sypathectomy the following month. Now I have dry warm hands that I can only describe as liberating. I do have a mild case of right-sided Horner's syndrome, but I am so pleased with the results that it seems a mere pittance in comparison. I only wish that the GP who was unconvinced it was as problem could see me now - I am a changed man!
