BMA Northern Ireland Council Elections
2006-2009
Nominations are sought in the election of
voting members of the Northern Ireland Council of the British
Medical Association to serve for three years for the sessions
2006-2007, 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 for candidates to fill the
stated number of seats in the following categories:
Constituencies
Craft
Five members engaged wholly or mainly in
general practice, but excluding general practice registrars, to
represent and be elected by members in general practice in Northern
Ireland of whom: 2 for East*; 1 North*; 1 South*; 1 West*
Five members employed wholly or mainly as
hospital consultants to represent and be elected by members who are
hospital consultants in Northern Ireland of whom:2 for East*; 1
North*; 1 South*; 1 West*
Six members who are doctors in the training
grades to represent and be elected by members who are doctors in
the training grades in Northern Ireland of whom: 3 for East*; 1
North*; 1 South*; 1 West*
One staff grade or associate specialist
member to represent and be elected by all staff grade and associate
specialist members throughout Northern Ireland.
One member engaged wholly or mainly in public
health medicine or community health to represent and be elected by
all members in the same fields of practice throughout Northern
Ireland.
One member employed whole time in
universities or in medical research or in both to represent and be
elected by members employed in the same field of practice
throughout Northern Ireland.
One member engaged wholly or mainly in
occupational medicine to represent and be elected by all members
active in the same field of practice throughout Northern Ireland.
One member to represent doctors in the civil
service throughout Northern Ireland.
One medical student member to represent and
be elected by all medical student members throughout Northern
Ireland.
Candidates, who may stand in one constituency
only, must be current members of the BMA and nominations should be
made on forms that are available from the BMA Office in Belfast.
*Note: East means Eastern Division of
the BMA in Northern Ireland; North means Northern Division of the
BMA in Northern Ireland; South means Southern Division of the BMA
in Northern Ireland; West means Western Division of the BMA in
Northern Ireland.
Each nomination must be signed by the
candidate, a proposer, and a seconder, all of whom must come within
the same constituency. The BMA membership number of all three
persons must be quoted on the nomination form, which should be
returned to the Northern Ireland Secretary at the BMA, 16 Cromac
Place, Cromac Wood, Ormeau Road, Belfast BT7 2JB (tel 028 9026
9666) no later than 12.00 noon on Monday 13 February 2006.
Ballot papers will be issued as necessary on 1 March 2006 to
members, and medical student members of the BMA (for election of a
medical student only) in Northern Ireland.
The BMA is committed to equality of

belief, gender, disability, race, political opinion, age, marital
status, sexual orientation, or whether or not they have dependants.
As women are currently known to be under-represented on BMA
committees, their nomination would be particularly welcome.
