Nutrition
Nutrition
is currently one of the most controversial topics. Even though
malnutrition is responsible for considerable mortality in some parts of
the world, we can also find a lot of people complaining of obesity due
to an unbalanced diet. Still, nutrition is the most common human need,
and it affects health, economics, politics, and
wars.
Two main websites that
highlight nutrition status globally are linked to the United Nations.
www.who.int/nut is the nutrition website of the World Health
Organization. The website focuses on how health is linked to nutrition
and the worldwide magnitude of malnutrition related mortality and
morbidity. The website highlights efforts by WHO and the global network
of collaborating centres to reduce health problems due to malnutrition.
The other website is maintained by the UN Standing Committee on
Nutrition (www.unsystem.org/scn), which aims to stop malnutrition
being a human development constraint. The site covers the standing
committee's activities, meetings, and news and includes reports
and lectures. The International Food Policy Research Institute
(www.ifpri.org) is another valuable international resource that
provides policy solutions to cut hunger and
malnutrition
Another
aspect covered on the web is the scientific study and research on
nutrition. The website of the British Nutrition Foundation
(www.nutrition.org.uk) is an attractive tool for accessing educational
material about nutritionjust follow the links for information,
education, or publications for many informative and
interesting topics. Furthermore, the website covers
prestigious projects and conferences at European
Union level. The Nutrition Society
(www.nutritionsociety.org) has been a pioneering voice of the
trade since 1941. Web pages cover career prospectus, meetings,
publications, and employment in the
field.
US websites give much
attention to consumer information. The US government has a specific
portal for nutrition (www.nutrition.gov) You can browse either by
subject or audience. Each link takes you to a new page which has links
to other websites on the subject. Also don't forget the website
of the Food and Drug Administration (www.fda.gov). The administration
is an international reference for safety, efficacy, and security of
human and veterinary drugs, biological products, medical devices, food
supply, cosmetics, and products that emit radiation. Each of these
sections has further links to more concrete information, reports, and
news from centres regulating that
product.
I
really liked the nutritional assessment after taking the short quiz at
the Evolution Diet website
(www.code-interactive.com/evolution-diet/healthprofile.html).
Finally, www.nutrition.uk.com is a simple website that acts as a portal
for nutrition and healthy diet news and is up to date, and you can sign
up for a free
newsletter.
